Here’s something I don’t understand about the so-called “Industry Standard” of video editors. And this is one of the reasons why I have to wonder if people in the video industry aren’t just choosing Final Cut merely because they’re morons who completely buy into Apple’s marketing.

Isn’t Apple a heavy promoter of the H.264 format? So why can’t Final Cut edit that format natively without rendering, and programs deemed less superior like Premiere Pro can?

But more than that, why can iMovie edit H.264, and it’s free while Final Cut is like a million dollars? It’s right there, Apple. Just take it from iMovie and put it into Final Cut. It’s almost like two different development teams who refuse to talk to each other- like they avoid eye contact in the hallways.

No real reason for the new look of the website other than I was seriously getting tired of looking at things that look like Apple. It was supposed to be a bold form of irony but I’m only human.

Being a happy Friday, I leave work with the news that I’m starting a tuning identity, “Bibien”. It started as a joke between friends, but the more I thought about it, the more I suddenly want to make this happen. I’ve begun turning my 328 into a project car and am in the process of applying entirely custom modifications- mostly interior and handling. Unfortunately, I shouldn’t touch the engine too much before my free service is up so some simple applications will have to suffice for now.

Bugger. Do pray for my wallet.

…is not having to require developers to make their apps “multitasking-friendly”. Heheh it’s a low blow but deserved- the only company who’s marketing strategy involves continual reliance on insulting its competitors, not only cannot multitask “the right way” but guzzles battery life doing so.

So what about Android 2.2? When I first got the Evo, it was running 2.1 and the battery life was just terrible. In fact, it was so terrible that it reminded me of the time I first got the iPhone 3G. I had initially thought it was due to the ton of apps open when multitasking. Now that I have 2.2, I realize that I was only half right.

The truth is, Android 2.2 actually does seem to manage multitasking more efficiently than 2.1 and the battery life results were noticeably better- just not impressively better. After a tiny bit of research, I found that it’s not actually the amount of apps open that drain the battery, it’s how often certain apps are pulling from the network. To tell which apps are constantly pulling, you need only look at the apps that keep coming back after you kill them. Apps like News, Stocks, Amazon MP3, Sprint Navigation- there usually are settings to disable auto-sync with the network. You can also follow these tips found in this article:

How To Stretch Battery Life on the HTC EVO

After applying some of these tips, I noticed the Evo’s battery life improved a great deal with meager usage.

The question, today, is how well the battery holds up to heavy usage under the new settings…

What’s new about Android 2.2? What isn’t new about it?

It loads apps faster, multi-tasks faster, animates faster, even browses websites faster. There’s built-in USB tethering, flash in the browser so it doesn’t go away from the webpage, and more app management options.

There is one strange thing I’ve noticed and it may or may not be annoying depending on the outcome: apps that run in the background for no apparent reason (like Fring or TiKL) when killed with a task killer, didn’t ever come back unless you ran them or restarted the phone, in 2.1. In 2.2, most task killers are now kind of useless because these pesky apps keep coming back. While it may be noted that these apps want to stay on to increase the speed during whenever you want to use them, there is the pressing concern of battery life.

In 2.1, if you had all these apps on- battery life would literally leak away even when the phone is in standby. By using a task killer to manually stop these apps, it seemed to save quite a bit of battery life. In 2.2, however, some of these pesky apps come back a second after you’ve stopped it. And eventually they all come back so that kind of sucks. But the interesting thing is, I’ve also noticed the battery hasn’t gone down at all when the phone is in standby. Could it be that the system is just plainly more efficient and a task killer is no longer needed? That would be awesome.

But it’s too soon to say- I will return with results when the day is over…
