Why is CNN and Fox news still talking about it? I am extremely surprised that I may be the only who thinks something is fishy here. Some over here are saying 19 deaths, some over there are saying 16 deaths- make up your mind. Get some people to do some actual research to find out precisely how many deaths are factually related to Toyota’s alleged vehicle issues.
Here’s what’s bugging me: how the hell would someone know, from a car crash so bad that the people in it died, that it was due to a sticky accelerator? Someone enlighten me please. And do any of you realize that we’re counting the number of deaths-per-Toyota-mishap purely based on phone calls from individuals? How would they know if the death was Toyota’s fault?
Is it completely unfair of me to assume that, hey maybe these people are trying to make an extra buck by suing Toyota? Oh of course, I’m completely out of place- American’s would never sue companies purely for personal gain. It’s so unlike them.
Once again I feel forced to defend Toyota, a Japanese company. I’m not trying to say that all Japanese companies are honorable but the difference between Japanese and American culture is noteworthy here. Firstly, I must ask that you stop allowing yourself to be brainwashed by “news” that is quite obviously opinionated and biased. The fact that Toyota is recalling almost all their vehicles can be viewed in two lights: a massive recall means that there’s something extremely bad with their technology, or they are willing to bend over backwards to satisfy customer concerns.
Without opinions, let’s just look at the facts- it is Toyota’s own decision to do such a massive recall. Nobody actually said they had to, and recalls are extremely costly. Something that should be taken into consideration is that Toyota has been doing recalls here and there for the last decade. Now if you’ve already been brainwashed, you’re automatically going to think oh wow, so that means Toyota’s products are really bad. Seriously, have you owned a Toyota product? No? Then shut up- you’re not allowed to say anything unless you own a Toyota.
Once again let’s look at the facts- what was the most recent recall? Toyota recalled the latest Corollas for a possible power steering issue- it’s not even a definite problem, but they just recalled it just in case. And funny that it has nothing to do with the stuck accelerator bull@#$% but the news is pinning it as if its related. So the fact is that Toyota does recalls all the time for almost any customer concern. I have a first generation Prius and I’ve experienced a recall: Toyota wrote me a letter telling me “hey, the battery that came with your car is new technology and there’s a possibility that it may not charge correctly at times. Can you bring the car in so that we can run some tests on it and if there are issues we’ll replace your battery with an updated one that’s better at no extra cost to you.” You know what I thought? Wow, what a good company- because nothing was actually wrong with the Prius at all but they still informed me beforehand just in case.
And if you’re still thinking, well, that could also mean that their products are bad- let me clear that up for you once and for all. By assuming that notion, you are automatically thinking that its in every company’s policy to do a major recall anytime there’s a problem. It isn’t. May I remind you that recalls are expensive and for most companies, it’s the very last straw.
Remember how the Ford Pinto used to catch on fire when it was rear ended? More than 20 people died from that specific cause- which is hard evidence that it’s a company mishap. Dying due to the gas tank lighting the car on fire, that is something that can be measured and recorded- not a sticky accelerator (which might be next to impossible in a mangled car from a commoner’s observation). Did Ford do a recall? No they refused to and actually fought it out in court. So I really don’t think people are giving enough positive credit to Toyota for recalling freaking everything.
